The Hunt
Guilldhall, team project. Single-player mod for Neverwinter Nights
Created over 6 month period by a team of 10 students (three Artists and seven Level Designers).
The player takes the role of Ko, a hunter and defender of a primitive people. An ancient evil has recently resurfaced, and Ko must collect objects of power to create the only weapon that can stop it.
Responsibilities & Accomplishments
- Concept and early design of the hunting ground sections of this game.
- Extensive scripting work to make all of the side-quests (12 in all).
- “Generic background” systems, namely some villager banter that changed based on player actions, and a new encounter system that is random and player-level independant.
- First map shown below: Fox-bunny creatures flee when they perceive the player, and are too fast to chase down easily. Player must to acquire missile weapons to hunt them.
- Fox-bunnies run to the burrow when threatened and only reappear when the player hides behind the bushes (on the spawn triggers).
- Second map: Rotaw, a large and dangerous animal, wanders between the various “food points”, grazing. By observation the player is able to anticipate where the creature is likely to go next and can place a trap for it.
- Third map: Designed to around the concept of a “hunting guide” animal. By making the creature's pathing random, the player is forced to follow a small animal as it “tracks” the prey. This area was heavily modified by the end of the project.
